Most tree problems we get called out for in North Texas started the day the tree went in the ground. Wrong species for the soil, planted too deep, staked too long, or put somewhere it was never going to have room.
We plant with the root flare visible at grade, not buried. Planting too deep is one of the leading causes of a young tree slowly declining for years, along with improper watering and roots that end up circling the trunk. We choose species for Blackland Prairie clay and for the specific spot, considering mature size, overhead lines, foundation distance, and drainage. Staking comes off on schedule instead of girdling the trunk. It is a small job done carefully, and most of the time it saves a much bigger one later. That is where 20+ years of navigating tricky tree situations earns its keep.

Texas A&M Forest Service, Planting, which names planting too deep, improper watering and girdling roots as three of the most common causes of poor establishment or death in a newly planted tree, and calls planting too deep a leading cause of mortality. The same guidance sets the root collar flush with or slightly above natural grade.
Live oak, cedar elm, bur oak, chinquapin oak, and Shumard oak all handle our clay and heat well. We steer people away from species that look great for five years and then struggle.

Often, yes. If we take one out, we can put the right replacement in the right spot, which is usually not the exact same spot.
No. Since 2019 we have never charged a customer more than we quoted. If a job takes longer than we figured, that is our miss, not your bill. The only time your number changes is when you say so. If you decide you want more done while we are there, that is a separate line, and we agree on it before anyone touches it. And if we find something the estimate could not have accounted for, you hear about it that day, before any work continues.
